  • What should I do after a fire in my home?

    • Immediately contact your insurance company
    • Contact your mortgage company
    • Save receipts relating to costs incurred by the tragedy and create invoices for all items destroyed
    • Avoid signing any contacts in the heat of the moment
    • Contact Craftech to begin the mitigation
  • Should I try to clean anything myself after fire damage?

The short answer is no.  Without expert eyes, you could be doing more damage to items that could be otherwise salvaged by our professional team.

We know its tempting to want to start cleaning right away or feel like you're contributing - but the reality is that fires can cause many unseen dangers, particularly when it comes to structural integrity of property.

A rule of thumb, you'll want to wait for the experts to inspect  first and foremost.

  • What should I do before a restoration company comes to clean?

The best way you can be helpful to a restoration crew is to idenitfy what valuables you want to be restored ASAP. You'll also want to idenitfy what can be thrown away by the crew.

Make sure that you take inventory of this process for your insurance company including taking inventory of what was destroyed in the fire - like food, clothing, appliances, etc.

  • How long will restoration take after a fire?

This is dependent on the size of the property and where the fire burned.

If the fire was contained to one room vs. several rooms or the whole property - your restoration time will vary.

We will always do our best to keep you updated on the entire process including our timeline for cleanup.

  • Do I need to move out of my house after a fire?

This depends on the extent of the damage done and the smells in your home the fire created.

If the fire was contained, you might not need to leave your home.

  • Do I need to pack up my belongings during restoration?

No. Our team prefers to restore damaged belongings onsite for the safety of our clients.

However there are circumstances that might require some packing:

    • If you are moving out of your home during the cleaning & restoration process, take anything that is undamaged that you might need.
    • Don't attempt to pack up or take items off premise that are soot or smoke damaged. If you have valuables, we'll assist you in securing them if they don't need to be restored.
  • Is it safe to turn on HVAC heat or cooling after a fire?

Do not turn on HVAC heat or cooling after a fire until your home has been inspected and it is deemed safe to do so.

A fire can cause hidden damage to HVAC systems and using it can cause problems or pump smoke and soot back into your home.

  • What is Bailee Insurance?

Bailee insurance is insurance coverage for a person or organization like Craftech to which possession of the property of others has been entrusted, usually for storage, repair, or servicing.
